Blue Origin - New Shepard Rocket - NS Training Simulator (Flight Software In the Loop)
My Experience: (January 2020 - Current)
Blue Origin - New Shepard Rocket - Operation & Maintenance Training Simulator:
Update: On December 1st, 2023; The Fidelity Upgrades have been completed to allow the same Software Part Number loaded on the vehicle to be loaded on the simulator without modifications. Going forward, the main activities are aimed to improve fault injection and continue with the unmodeled secondary systems. Also, this day represent the completion of the initial design drafted in January 2020. From Drafting this design until seeing it thru completions, this is one of my proudest projects.
My Experience: (January 2020 - Current)
Blue Origin - New Shepard Rocket - Operation & Maintenance Training Simulator:
- Role: Lead System and Integration Engineer. Included frequent travel to Seattle, WA. Current assigned project.
- Architected a training simulator rack that consisted of HP-DL380s and Logitech MK100s to host Matlab/Simulink-based models of the ground equipment, propulsion system, crew capsule, and other sub systems physical components in closed loop simulation with flight software to simulate the full New Shepard rocket and ground operations.
- The training rack was connected to the launch operation rooms and consoles to allow launch operators to train on their procedures.
- Developed the continuous integration process and documentation to allow rack users to power up the rack, load new simulation if needed, restart it and use it.
- Completed all software integration work necessary to have all the various software packages communicating with each other correctly.
- Performed oversite on all training activities, collected feedback from the launch operation team, and implemented continuous improvement plans to expand rack capabilities or finetuned certain behaviors based on launch team priorities.
- Collaborated with GNC engineers on the development of the Simulink models that simulated the physics of valves, pipes, tanks, actuators, power systems, and other essential peripherals; and how they interfaced with software packages.
- Collaborated with the various software, hardware and system teams; for all the various New Shepard subsystems; to learn and integrate their software packages into the rack.
